The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway

Welcome

Welcome to a pictorial look at the EVRA and Wyvernrail based at Wirksworth in Derbyshire. Describled as a future 'community railway' work began in the Autumn of 2000 to return the abandoned Duffield to Wirksworth branchline (which first carried passengers in 1867) to full operational order. Running over a distance of 8 1/2 miles the first passenger train ran on August 24th 2004 over a short section of track. A gradual re-opening of the full length of the line is planned over the next five years.

	28th Feb 2009	Special Events - The Home Fleet Diesel Gala February/March 2009. Saturday 28th February 2009 and the first day of the home fleet diesel gala on a somewhat dismal (weatherwise!) Saturday morning.
	2nd Aug 2008	Wirksworth - Idridgehay A run from Wirksworth to Idridgehay with Derby Lightweight M79900 'Iris' providing the travel. Photographs taken from the front passenger seat on the 2nd August 2008. Hopefully, in a couple of years this section will expand somewhat and be re-titled Wirksworth - Duffield!
	8th Mar 2008	Special Events - Idridgehay Reopening. Saturday 8th March 2008 and the EVR's first breakout from Wirksworth to Idridgehay some 3 1/2 miles beyond. The mornings events and the first train are recorded.
	10th Jan 2008	The Narrow Gauge Line In 2007 work began to increase the length of the short narrow gauge line for future use. Here we see stages of construction and eventually running trains!
	30th Sep 2007	The Filming Of Casualty June 2007 saw filming for the popular BBC drama 'Casualty'. Richard Buckby records the proceedings....
	19th Jul 2007	Work Along The Line Permanent way is an area not generally seen by all but plays a big part in the eventual aim to reach Duffield. All photogaphs in this section are by EVRA member Richard Buckby. Many thanks go to him for providing the images in this section.
	10th Jul 2007	The Platform 2 Project Started in early 2007, the platform 2 project prepared for the big move south, initially to Idrigehay and then beyond. Here we see the new platform virtually complete and not far from receiving its first passengers. All photos were taken on the 10th July 2007. Several photos of earlier construction work can be viewed in both the 'Big Brother Is Watching You...' and 'Miscellany' sections.
